Learning Wisely, Living Virtuously
Thursday 26th February 2015 - 19:00
2015 Keswick Hall Lecture
Learning wisely, living virtuously: the challenge of modern education
Prof Mona Siddiqui, University of Edinburgh
How do we measure successful learning today? Higher education is a world of league tables and academic streaming, related to employability factors. Results matter but the moral questions of life also matter. We should have the courage to help students cultivate expertise in the conduct of a good life, rather than see wisdom as an unprofessional distraction.
Mona Siddiqui is Professor of Islamic and Interreligious Studies at the University of Edinburgh and is a member of the Commission on Scottish Devolution. She is also a regular contributor to Thought for the Day and Sunday on BBC Radio 4, and to The Times, The Scotsman, The Guardian and The Sunday Herald.
