To find free stuff to do in Norwich, you can search the calendar for events today or in the future, or find something specific using the search bar on the right. Please note, I'm returning to this blog after a long break. I'm trying to make sure that the calendar function is up to date, but this may take some time with covid changes to our lives and to the free stuff in Norwich. Please bear with me, and always check with the organiser that the event is going ahead! I love getting feedback! English Language Talk

English Language Talk
Free event at Wymondham Words Festival of Literature
Sunday 23 October
15.00 Wymondham Abbey

Where did the English language come from? How did it first establish itself as our
national language? What better place to learn more about this subject than the
magnificent setting of Wymondham’s twelfth century Benedictine Abbey.

Dr Graham Platts’ illustrated talk will describe the foundations of English in Britain
and its evolution up to the 12th century, before the modern forces of language
standardisation came into effect.

Dr Platts graduated from the University of York with a degree in English and Related
Literature, before pursuing a Master’s course in English Society and Culture in the
Later Middle Ages at Birmingham University and a PhD there that focused on South
Lincolnshire in the early 14th century.

Tickets: Free event. No need to book, just turn up on the afternoon.
