Fruits of the Mind exhibition

This is an exhibition which is close to my heart.

The Fruits of the Mind exhibition is an inspiring showcase for the local artistic talent of people experiencing mental distress.
  • When is it? It is from 1-5 September 2013
  • Where is it?  It is in the Forum in Norwich
It is supported by the Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust in collaboration with The Well, a group of artists with mental health problems.

I think there's still a bit of time to submit your art work as well (01603 421421 (ask for Rachel Kenyon at The Conifers) or email fruitsofthemind@nsft.nhs.uk)

Norwich Unite

Norwich Unite is a get together for people who for whatever reason find themselves socially isolated.

Come along to any event and give yourself the opportunity to expand your social contacts, join in activities of your choice, make friends with like-minded people and share mutual interests.

You can phone one of the contacts for the monthly meetings and talk with a Unite member or if you'd prefer send us an e-mail or just go along to a meeting.

If you feel you want to attend a meeting for the first time but you won't know anyone, we can arrange for a friendly Unite member to welcome you on arrival.

Free Music from Discharge Lounge, Banjaxeld and Dr Clyde

I've started going out to free gigs in pubs and bars and ordering a lime soda which is only slightly more than free!

Discharge Lounge

Formed in Norwich in 2012, Discharge Lounge are a sextet that combine Jazz, Klezmer, Funk and influences from multiple genres and filter these through a lens of theatrical absurdity. Songs about gravy, cartoon physics and psychosis are played on a giddy array of instruments including saxes, xaphoon, talk boxes, electric sitar and flute. Marrying this musical mischief with cheap stage effects and even cheaper costumes they firmly believe that playing music should be fun for both the band and audience and aim to create a synesthetic feast for all your muddled senses.

Banjaxeld

Jeff Jeffers, singer/songwriter/musician along with Mark Mace (Bass) and Vinny Fogg (Percussion), have gone back to basics to put together an original Soul/Funk band with Blues influences and incorporating many forms of Rhythm from Reggae to Jazz!
And with the addition of Singer/Songwriter and Blues guitarist Jamie Roe there is much sweet music to be made.

Dr. Clyde

Norwich based energetic three piece playing a worldly blend of danceable music.

"We have been together since november 2011 and spend our time together writing as much music as we can. We have many influences ranging from jazz to metal which makes a weird and wonderful sound which forces your feet to dance and you face to contort till you are drenched in sweat and your feet are blistered. We are out to have fun and enjoy playing our music to all of yous."

Norwich to Trowse bridges walk

Norwich to Trowse bridges walk

The walk covers four miles (6.5 km) and takes around three hours to complete or longer if you stop at the points of interest you find along the route. A convenient place to start the walk is from Sainsburys off Queens Road.

The route takes walkers from the centre of Norwich out into the countryside, demonstreating just how closely linked Norwich is to its rural surroundings.

Norwich Fringe Project also maintain some local green spaces around Norwich - for more info visit the website.
