Come along and enjoy making your own eco fire-lighter, your own tin can cooker with Danny, Carol and Julie and enjoy some cooked food with lots of tea! You will need to dress warmly as we will be outside for a couple of hours. Come prepared for rain and wet grass. Bring your own bacon and sausages and we'll supply the bread, mushrooms and beans, tea and lots of good December cheer! Bring any candle ends you have lying around too which are good for melting. We'll be holding this in a private garden in Trowse but will meet you on the road outside the Ski Resort at 11am.

Books suitable for a 12 year old
Candles, any size or colour
Doggy poo bags
Dried complete food for a Labrador or medium cat
Homemade Biscuits

Putting a Price on Nature

One of the biggest challenges facing environmental scientists is how to advise the government on the best way to manage the supply of our natural resources. The natural world and its ecosystems are important to our wellbeing and economic prosperity. Yet they have been consistently undervalued in conventional economic analyses and decision making. Research conducted by the University of East Anglia can tell us more about these issues and show how we can find the true value of natural environments, such as the Norfolk Broads or Thetford Forest.
Exhibitions, talks and interactive demonstrations across two days (6 and 8 November) will explore the questions ‘what does nature do for me?’ and ‘what is nature worth?’. At this event, economists and geographers will illustrate the interconnection between modern lifestyles and the natural environment using a range of information technologies. You will be able to take a virtual tour over Norfolk, talk to the experts and add to the exhibition through writing and drawing. At this event on Thursday evening, you can to take part in a one-off lively discussion with university professors and conservation groups.
This exciting event will be an opportunity for the general public to experience first-hand the innovative techniques used to communicate the benefits we receive from nature. Visitors will be invited to take part in interactive demonstrations designed to showcase cutting-edge information technologies such as 3D visualisation and virtual tours.
This event is free and open to all; however places are limited for the discussion on Thursday evening and for the Saturday events. Light refreshments will be provided.
The exhibition will take place from 10.00 until 16.00. The discussion in the auditorium will start at 17.30.

Norwich Farmshare Open Day
Norwich Farmshare is a community farm on the edge of Norwich, near Postwick. We help adults and children learn about the source of their food and train volunteers in practical growing skills. We grow food for over 80 members and deliver weekly around the city.
We’d love to see you at our annual Open Day on Saturday 27th September 10-4.30. We will be welcoming Bob Flowerdew from BBC Gardener’s Question Time and there’ll be some great live music, kids activities, delicious food stalls, games and pop-up talks. We’ll be running farm tours and there’ll be a chance for all the family to get their hands in the soil!
Come for the day or come for a while: all welcome.

Norfolk Wherry Trust Open days to see the Albion
The Albion, a Norfolk wherry, now 116 years old was built as a cargo carrying sailing barge and rescued by Norfolk Wherry Trust in 1949, and maintained in sailing condition by volunteers ever since. She has a vast black sail and her hull measures some 60' long by 15' wide. Voted 'runner up' Flagship of the Year by National Historic Ships in 2010, she recently featured in TV programmes hosted by Matt Baker and Giles Coren. Come and see the Broads icon that enchanted them.

Watch the Peregrines at Norwich Cathedral
Peregrine falcons make the Cathedral their home during the summer. Nesting on the Cathedral’s 250ft spire; you can have a close look at the birds of prey from the Hawk & Owl Trust observation point set up at the Cathedral from April until July.

Peregrine Watchpoint - The Watch Point is open from 10.00am to 5.00pm every day now until the end of June. Here the Hawk and Owl Trust are able to give the you close-up views of the peregrines through some great telescopes.

Grapes Hill Community Garden
Grapes Hill Community Garden Group (GHCGG) was set up in summer 2008 to convert a run-down disused area near Norwich city centre into a community garden. Our site, a 50 metre by 12 metre former play area, was covered in tarmac.
The community garden is open free of charge to the public every day from 9.00am
Lovely to visit. You can also take some cuttings.
We consulted the local community on the design of the garden and following the completion of hard landscaping work in late 2010 we held a series ofwork days in spring 2011 to plant up the garden. The garden opened to the public for the first time on Saturday 2nd July 2011 and we celebrated with a Grand Opening Day on Sunday 7th August 2011.
The community garden is open free of charge to the public every day from 9.00am
Lovely to visit. You can also take some cuttings.

Take a walk
Whitlingham Country Park
Whitlingham Country Park is only a couple of miles outside of Norwich and is the ‘Gateway to The Broads’. If you walk or take public transport entry is free if you take the car then there is a small charge of £4 to park for the day. At the park you can walk for miles, take nature trail walks and cycle trails through woods and meadows on the edge of the River Yare.
The Plantation Garden is a grade II English Heritage registered garden established 143 years ago in an abandoned chalk quarry some 600 yards from the city centre. It comprises nearly 3 acres and includes; a huge gothic fountain, flower beds, lawns, Italianate terrace, 'Medieval' terrace wall, woodland walkways, a 10 metre long Victorian-style greenhouse and rustic bridge.

The walk covers four miles (6.5 km) and takes around three hours to complete or longer if you stop at the points of interest you find along the route. A convenient place to start the walk is from Sainsburys off Queens Road.
The route takes walkers from the centre of Norwich out into the countryside, demonstreating just how closely linked Norwich is to its rural surroundings.

Take a circular walk on the Wherryman's Way
The Wherryman's Way is a 35-mile footpath from Norwich to Great Yarmouth, with ten circular village walks en-route. The 2 mile circular walk from Surlingham (park by the church) goes through a Marsh nature reserve, Church ruin, and past a nice pub.
