Every other Thursday, we go to the Haymarket to hand out food and other essential items to the homeless of Norwich. We still need more helpers to cook food and for other donations that will help the homeless.

On the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, SoMe encourages you to keep the memory alive through face to face interaction.

SoMe aims to bring people together. Through the nuances of social media, such as 'The Wall' and 'The Chat Room', SoMe generates dialogue between members of the public and volunteers willing to share their personal experiences.

Volunteers will post brief descriptions of themselves (like Tweets) on ‘The Wall’, with a basic profile of themselves underneath. Visitors can then read the descriptions and choose to “follow” the volunteers, such as a refugee, for example, to find out more about them and their experiences. The next stage is to enter ‘The Chat Room’ – a section of the Atrium where they can have a chat and, hopefully, emerge better informed.

Organsier Nick Little states that there will be 'a range of people with different experiences. It’s not just about the holocaust, but all genocides, recent experiences such as the Congo. The idea is to allow people to have conversations with people who may have experienced some of these things.'

On Saturday 31st January come celebrate your love for Manga and Anime!

We are holding a manga and anime event at the forum. It’s all part of a month long exhibition in fusion at the forum for ‘Norfolk on film’, a collection of some of the great films we now have on our site.

One set of films has been about manga and anime looking at the fan culture in the county, this inspired us to hold this event

 The event will consist of a series of films looking at anime and manga fan culture in the county, AMV’s (Anime music videos), a quiz and talks about the fan community.

Cosplay is welcome and we will also be having a cosplay masquerade at the end of the day.

Workshops focused around Women on March 8th. 

So far we have a possible guest speaker to speak from Norfolk African Gender Organisation and a possible discussion workshop using Forum Theatre asking what bothers women in Norwich today.

Danny is looking for a further two workshops and then possible add on's, and would like to ask fellow members if they have any suggestions?  

International Women’s Day is a time to reflect on progress made, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.

This year’s theme, “Equality for women is progress for all”  emphasizes how gender equality, empowerment of women, women’s full enjoyment of human rights and the eradication of poverty are essential to economic and social development. It also stresses the vital role of women as agents of development.

There are other events for International Women's Day happening in the evening, and as such any events in The Common Room will avoid this time.

Wherryman's Way Circular Walks

The Wherryman’s Way is in the Broads – Britain’s largest protected wetland. This installation is one of a number along this 35-mile recreational route following the course of the River Yare between Norwich and Great Yarmouth. The route takes its name from the wherry – a large cargo-carrying barge whose elegant black sails were a once common sight on these waters.

You can walk the whole route or explore parts of it by cycle, train and river bus. Alternatively you can explore one of the ten circular village walks en-route. Look out for the unique waymarkers along the route, which include figures, sculpture, information panels and audio points.

Wherryman's Way Circular Walks

There are 12 circular walks in this booklet, all based around the Wherryman’s Way walk which runs for 35 miles between Norwich and Great Yarmouth. Each walk comes complete with directions, a user-friendly map and is waymarked on the ground. Information about each walk is included, giving details such as distances, estimated walk times, path surfaces and facilities available. The map in the centre pages of the booklet shows the route of Wherryman’s Way and the locations of the 12 circular walks.

Ones within easy driving distance of Norwich are the Whittlingham one (park on the verge to avoid parking costs) and Surlingham (park by the church)

Introduction
We are planning on running 6 evenings in Lent for everyone associated with St Luke’s Church  to enable those who wish to be involved to look at how to discover a personal and corporate vision for action.  This includes people who come to both the Sunday morning service and the Christ Consciousness Community, as well as anyone else who would like to join in.

The events will be led by Julian Bryant
We will also be sharing experiences, and building a sense of ‘togetherness’ as we look out at the community that surrounds us. Thinking and praying about how we might bring positive change to our environment.

What is the Human Library?
The Human Library is an innovative method designed to promote dialogue, reduce prejudices and encourage understanding.The main characteristics of the project are to be found in its simplicity and positive approach.

In its initial form the Human Library is a mobile library set up as a space for dialogue and interaction. Visitors to a Human Library are given the opportunity to speak informally with “people on loan”; this latter group being extremely varied in age, sex and cultural background.

The Human Library enables groups to break stereotypes by challenging the most common prejudices in a positive and humorous manner. It is a concrete, easily transferable and affordable way of promoting tolerance and understanding.

Andrew G Haldane is the Chief Economist at the Bank of England and Executive Director, Monetary Analysis and Statistics.  He is a member of the Bank's Monetary Policy Committee.  He also has responsibility for research and statistics across the Bank.  In 2014, TIME magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world.   Andrew has written extensively on domestic and international monetary and financial policy issues.  He is co-founder of ‘Pro Bono Economics', a charity which brokers economists into charitable projects.
