Every other Thursday, we go to the Haymarket to hand out food and other essential items to the homeless of Norwich. We still need more helpers to cook food and for other donations that will help the homeless.

The Big Lunch

On Sunday Grapes Hill Community Garden are hosting a bring-and-share meal as part of The Big Lunch, a national event that brings neighbours together.

Bring your own food or something to share (and a table and chairs or rug if you have them and can carry them – if not some will be provided).

Every week TCV take willing volunteers out to protect Norwich’s greenspaces and further afield.  Tea and biscuits provided. Bring working clothes, stout footwear and a packed lunch

Free Tai Chi, Counselling, Computer access, job support, art and music, housing advice etc...

Under1roof is a training and development centre targeted at people who are homeless or who are vulnerable and at risk of homelessness.

What happens there?

Although the emphasis of the project is clearly focused on providing people with skills that can help them compete for jobs in the greater community, not all training sessions will necessarily be work related.  Much of what will be on offer will be informal learning to help develop  confidence, build self esteem and inspire, prior to taking up work based training.  These sessions can also support people achieve basic skills such as literacy and numeracy.

Free impartial careers advice at Broadland Meridian

I wouldn't normally post something like this but I thought with all the people in Norwich who are out of work, or unhappy in work, it may be relevant for some people.

Broadland Meridian have funding through the National Careers Service to offer free sessions of careers advice to ANYONE (it doesn't matter if you're in work or not), and up to three sessions if you're out of work (for whatever reason).  This could be info about volunteering, education / courses, getting a CV, interview advice etc.

They're trained to work with people who experience additional barriers, but they also work with middle managers looking for a career change, recently redundant etc.

Interesting Volunteering Opportunities in Norwich and beyond

Ever thought about volunteering?  Not just for 'do-gooders', the unemployed, and the retired! - the rest of us can get a lot out of it too, including free training, meeting new people, gaining skills, and generally having a good laugh.  

And it's not just working in a charity shop, y'know!  A quick look at the Do-it.org website has a range of opportunities including: Helper For Toddler Dance Classes, Beached Bird Surveyor, First Aid Volunteer, and Treasurer.

Sew Gay group - Saturday 21 July 2012

Enjoy sewing and crafts?  The Sew Gay group are a bunch creative people who love to sew, knit, glue, stitch - whatever we need to do to make banners, bunting, scarves and patchworks to support Norwich Pride in their vision to turn Norwich into a rainbow. We meet monthly on the big table upstairs in the Millennium Library in the Forum. We are an inclusive group - whilst many of us are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual or Trans (LGBT), we welcome everyone

Meet upstairs in the Millennium Library in the Forum from 12-2pm Saturday 21 July 2012 to make decorations for Norwich Pride.
