UEA spring Inaugural Lecture on Nutrition

Thanks to Laura Maryam Nazmdeh for this post
Free drinks reception.... I'm there!

Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are

Tuesday 27th January 18:30 - 19:30
UEA (contact for location)

Join us for an opportunity to hear about cutting-edge research taking place at the University of East Anglia from our newly appointed professors. The 2015 spring Inaugural Lecture series covers a fascinating range of topics, from healthy eating and art history to prose fiction and protests. You don't have to be an expert to enjoy these open public lectures and there is a chance to meet the speaker at a free drinks reception after the talk.

The first of our spring Inaugural Lectures, ‘Tell me what you eat and I will tell you what you are’ will be given by Prof Alastair Forbes from Norwich Medical School.

The title of this lecture is borrowed from a French gastronome who recognised the importance of what we eat in what becomes of us. While his was a more philosophical approach, this talk will look at how our diets affect our health and alter the risks of various diseases. Prof Forbes will use his background in clinical nutrition to explore examples used in medical practice, and those of a more epidemiological nature.

Attendance is free and open to all.

For more information email events@uea.ac.uk or call 01603 592130.

Free emergency food for people in crisis

Providing emergency food for local people in crisis

A sudden crisis such as an illness, family breakup, death, benefit delay or redundancy can leave people unable to feed themselves and their families.  If you are really struggling to pay for food, crisis food boxes are available to people who obtain a food voucher on of the Voucher centres.  You can then exchange the voucher for a food box at one of the Distribution centres

Free food available!

Welcome to our community sports centre.

We aim to provide a broad range of activities to help fulfil the needs of our local community.

Our charity is voluntary based and continues to evolve as we seek to expand our community asset.

Having rescued the sports hall from closure in 2010, we are still seeking to improve our tenure with the pursuit of an extended lease from Norfolk County Council.

Whether as an individual or group participation we look forward to seeing old and new friends alike.

Freeshop Norwich

I'm thinking of setting up a monthly Freeshop in Norwich

"Freeshops, otherwise known us Give-away shops are similar to charity shops, only everything is available free at no cost. Whether it is a book, a piece of furniture, a garment or a household item, it is all freely given away.  Through the concept of the gift economy, Freeshops are a statement against the senseless consumerism of our times."

If you'd like to help out with running a freeshop (it means you get first dibs on all the freestuff!), email freestufftodoinnorwich@gmail.com
