Living the Story with the Norwich Man in Black

Experience Norwich in the company of the master storyteller, The Man in Black, as he takes you on a guided tour through the dark and shrouded parts of Norwich seeking out the stories of the undead.

This Friday (24th October), you are invited to join Norwich's very own ghost hunter on one of his famous night-time strolls around the city in search of ghosts, ghouls and poltergeists!

The tour is absolutely FREE, and starts at 7:30pm at the Adam and Eve pub on Bishopgate, the oldest and most notoriously haunted pub in Norwich.

Picnic at Norwich Cathedral

Messy Play & Praise at Norwich Cathedral

Messy Play and Praise held at the Anglican Cathedral in Norwich is a free day of fun with a short period of worship followed by a picnic time and fun activities for young families on Friday August 8th. 

Messy Play & Praise will kick off in the Cathedral with a short interactive service with live band and gospel story. Families are then invited to bring and eat their own picnic in the surroundings of the historic cloisters before embarking on a multitude of fun, creative and messy craft activities on the theme of the bible story about the Wedding at Cana.

Irene Nickerson from Open the Book will bring the wedding story alive with opportunities for dressing up and storytelling and the Diocese of Norwich PlayVan will also be providing an exciting under 5’s play space with toys, games and quiet play activities.

Wymondham's a great place for people who like free stuff, and only a short trip outside of Norwich on the A11.

There's usually a free exhibition at the arts centre
And some nice walks (free to download here)

A good tourist information (the staff are really helpful and friendly) is in the Market Square in the building here:

In recognition of American Independence Day,
The Oriole Singers are presenting a concert at St Peter Mancroft Church, Norwich
featuring dark music from the Deep South.
Negro Spirituals, Selections from Show-Boat, “The Entertainer” by Scott Joplin
plus a story narrated by Joy Croft are woven together to
make an hour length musical entertainment.
Admission is free, but there is a retiring collection for Oxfam’s Haiti Appeal:
Haiti, a Caribbean Island, was populated by escaped or freed slaves; it suffered a devastating earthquake in 2010.

Julian of Norwich week

Events and workshops over the city

Of interest to theologans, linguists and feminists, Julian of Norwich (1342- ca. 1416) is reported to have been the first woman to write a book to survive in English, Revelations of Divine Love. 

St Julian’s Church and the Julian Centre will be open all week,and the Church will be hosting an installation of Jules Allen’s book art responding to the Cloud of Unknowing.  There will also be a display of her work in response to Julian’s writings at the Forum.  

You can also turn up at St Julian’s Church at 2 on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for a tour of Church and Julian Shrine with Denise Treissman without booking a place in advance.

You can also turn up if you’re free on Sunday for either of the events on that day: Sr Pamela is leading a tour of King Street in the steps of Mother Julian at 12.45 pm, and Denise Treissman invites you to a Julian meditation at 2.30 pm.

This is the talk by Lord Rowan Williams, the former Archbishop of Canterbury, about Julian which he will be giving in Norwich Cathedral between 10.30 and 11.30 on Saturday 10 May.

You can still turn up at any of the talks or other evening events without a ticket, though we can’t guarantee there will be space for you.  Please book yourself a place if you want to go to any of the workshops, because spaces are particularly limited.
